Visitation House Baby Bottle Fundraiser

 Visitation House Baby Bottle Fundraiser

Starting this weekend, May 18 and 19, Good Shepherd Parish will be participating in a Baby Bottle Fundraiser to benefit Visitation House, a Catholic home for homeless women facing crisis pregnancies. Since opening 8 years ago on the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Mother to her cousin Elizabeth, Visitation House has cared for 150 mothers and their babies. While women await the birth of their babies at the home on Vernon Hill in Worcester, MA, Visitation House feeds, clothes, educates, and nurtures them. After the birth of their baby, mothers can stay up to six months, and during that time the staff at Visitation House assists them with housing, higher education, and job opportunities and furnishes them with the basic necessities to start their new lives.

Next weekend, please support Visitation House by taking a baby bottle, keeping it during the next month, and filling it with your spare money. We will distribute the bottles next weekend and collect them back on June 15 & 16. This outreach is sponsored by our Charity & Social Justice Committee.

Give that a child may live.

Your gift of whatever size will be greatly appreciated.

The smallest gift from God is our greatest treasure!

Religious Education Registration for 2013-2014

Registration for Religious Education classes for next year has begun and will continue throughout May after all masses in the Parish Center.

This year we instituted many new elements in Religious Education. We expanded Little Lambs with Bible stories and skits, we re-instituted both the Christmas and Easter pageants for our younger children, each grade had a retreat, and the catechists worked tirelessly to make their lessons enjoyable for the children.

I am happy to announce that one catechist has gone through Diocesan training and another is in the midst of training as Basic and Master Catechists.

This year, we are going to update the Religious Education resources. Little Lambs will continue to use the Seeds program through Pflaum Publishing; Grade 1 will use the 2013 edition of Loyola Press Finding God series; Grade 2 will use the Pflaum Reconciliation and First Eucharist resources; Grades 3-5 will use the Pflaum series; and Grades 6-8 will also use the Finding God series. Mr. Bruce is working on a Confirmation I curriculum and Father Larry will be using the Pflaum series in Confirmation II.
Last year, I had mentioned that we needed a $10 increase, but we implemented a $5 increase, with the other $5 being implemented this year. For this reason, the new fee schedule will be as follows:

$70/one child; $100/two children; $120/three or more children.

If your child is new to the program, a baptismal certificate is required at the time of registration.

As always, thank you so much for letting us work with your children.                                                Carol

Families of all children registered in our program must be registered parishioners of either Good Shepherd or St. Mary’s Parish in Uxbridge. (Registering for Religious Education is not the same as parish registration. You can register at Good Shepherd by calling the rectory at 508-234-7726 during regular office hours.)

05/19: Reception for First Communion

The Senior Ministry will also be hosting a reception for the First Communion class on May 19th after the 11:00 Mass.
