07/05/2013: Friday Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

First Friday Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be held in the Mary Chapel on Friday, July 5 at 9:15 AM. Please use the sign-up sheet in the sacristy so that we know who will be present. The Blessed Sacrament cannot be left unattended at any time.

07/10/2013: Good Shepherd Serves at Peace of Bread

The Good Shepherd team will be serving at the Peace of Bread Community Kitchen on Wednesday, July 10. Those willing to help with cooking and preparation should arrive by 3 PM. Servers should arrive by 5 PM.

The Peace of Bread Community Kitchen is located in the basement of the United Presbyterian Church at 51 Cottage St. in Whitinsville. Teams from area churches and businesses serve a free meal to anyone in need every Wednesday at 5:30 PM. Our team serves 4 times a year. 06/29: Knights of Columbus Annual Charity Golf Tournament

Knights of Columbus Mumford Council #365 is sponsoring their 9th Annual Charity Golf Tournament on June 29 at the Heritage Country Club. There will be prizes on several holes, cash prizes for best teams, and a fun raffle; golf shirts for all and a great steak dinner! The cost is $125 per player. The Holiday Fair Crafters’ Group will meet in the church hall on Saturday, June 15 from 11 AM to 2:45 PM.

Good Shepherd Youth Confronts Homelessness at 4th Annual Cardboard City

“Sleeping outside in a box is fun as a kid, but what happens if you don’t have a box, or blankets, or a home that you can later go back to. There are real people that do this. We have to be thankful for what we have.”

These were the sentiments expressed from 10-year old Zack, a member of Good Shepherd Parish’s Youth Ministry program and one of 24 youth participating in the Cardboard City experience. Cardboard City is an annual program held at Good Shepherd that raises awareness to the harsh realities of homelessness. Youth participants—overseen by 17 adult chaperones—slept outside in boxes, pan handled for donations, and were limited to meager meals consisting only of bread and chicken stew. By living the real-life experience, even if only for a day, participants gain a greater appreciation for what they have been given in life, and a stronger desire to help those less fortunate.
