03/25-03/26/2017: Food Pantry and New Day Outreach

“…I assure you, as often as you did it for one of my least brothers, you did it for me.” Matthew 26:40 On the last full weekend of each month, we have an opportunity to respond to Jesus’ call for us to help those in need. Next weekend, March 25 & 26, is our Food Pantry and New Day Outreach weekend.

Food Pantry

This month our donations will go to the People First Food Pantry in Uxbridge. Please purchase an extra item or two when you do your shopping this week and bring them to church next weekend. Just a note: Food pantries are not allowed to distribute any food items that have expired; they have to throw them away.

Please check expiration dates carefully if you bring an item from your home!

New Day

Monies received in the Good Shepherd Church replica on the last weekend of each month are used to help individuals and families from our parish, and also to support various community causes. Your generosity each month enables us to continue to help those in need.

Bishop Robert McManus Speaks on a Well-formed Conscience

On Wednesday, March 8th Bishop Robert McManus spoke at Good Shepherd on the importance of a well-formed conscience. He explained that as a society we often look to conscience as deciding between what is right and wrong; however, without our conscience being well formed it may be difficult for us as Catholics to understand the difference in the eyes of the Catholic church.

Bishop McManus explained the concept of moral relativism, and that too often we look to what society says instead of what is written in the Catholicism of the Catholic Church. This is in part to a shift in teaching over the last few generations that has not truly pushed young Catholics to learn and understand Catholic ethics. He noted that just because something is legal, such as abortion, does not mean that it is morally acceptable. That we as Catholics should look back ad study the Catholicism of the Catholic Church to build our own well-formed conscience.

Bishop McManus was the first of our Lenten speakers. The series will continue on March 21st as Marc Tumeinski, Ph.D, Assistant Professor of Theology at Anna Maria College presents on the topic of Tolerance. He will be followed on March 29th by Dr. John Zawacki, professor of medicine at UMASS Medical School and a member of the Bishop’s Committee on Evangelization, who will speak on Humility.

All speakers will begin at 7:00 PM and admission is free. Please join us.
